Do you ever get fruit and veggies from the supermarket and wonder how many people have touched them? How many germs or chemicals or whatever is on them and now sitting in your kitchen on the counter for you and your family to eat??
I've always washed my fruit and veggies when I bring them home and now with the coronavirus it is smart to take all the precautions you can. So here is what I do to clean my fruit and veggies....
WHAT YOU WILL NEED:
- 1 cup vinegar
- Your sink full of water
That's it. Pretty simple, right?
So what I like to do is clean them right when I get home while I'm putting away groceries. If I don't do it then I will forget to do it. Plus if I have grapes and pick them off the vine as I'm putting them in the sink to clean them, I am more likely to eat them before they go bad because they are then quick and easy to just get out of the fridge and eat. Run water in your sink and add the cup of vinegar. I put all the fruit and veggies in the sink together and let them sit for 20 minutes. The vinegar not only cleans the fruit but also extends the freshness of your produce. Then pull the plug (be careful if you have blueberries or anything that will fit down the drain), I usually pull it up a little and tip it so it lets the water through but keeps the produce from going down the drain. Then I take the hose and spray all dirt away! I like to store my fruit and veggies in little bowls, in or out of the fridge depending on what it is. Hope this helps you and your family stay healthy!
