Natural Cleaning Pt. 6

Sometimes I notice that even though I vacuum the carpets they still get a musty smell. It may not stink up the whole house or anything but if I workout or do yoga I will sometimes get my face close enough to the carpet to know that it doesn't smell all that great...
Well there is a simple AND natural fix for that! Instead of buying a carpet powder that has chemicals in it and could be harmful to your family or pets, try this simple DIY carpet powder.
WHAT YOU WILL NEED:
- 1/2 cup borax
- 1/2 cup baking soda
- 30 drops of essential oil of your choice
- Glass jar to store it in
It's that simple! If you're someone who likes to make their own cleaning products then you probably already have all these ingredients. While all together these ingredients are more expensive than one bottle of carpet cleaner, these ingredients will make several batches of carpet cleaner so in the long run, this is the cheaper route.
Mix all ingredients in a bowl and then place in a glass jar. I like mason jars for my carpet cleaner or I have even repurposed glass jars from Parmesan cheese and used those because they have the top with the holes to sprinkle out the perfect amount of powder. When you get everything mixed in your jar you should let it sit over night before using so the essential oils really leave their scent on the borax and baking soda. Then sprinkle your carpet, if you have a carpet brush you can use that to help get it into your carpet more, let sit for 20 minutes and then vacuum it all up. Now your carpets smell nice and fresh! Here are some oil suggestions that will help with odors, feel free to mix different ones to create your own scent!
Lemon- antibacterial, antiseptic and deodorizing
Rosemary- antiviral, anti-fungal, antiseptic and deodorizing

*Note* if you have pets, keep them off the carpet while your powder is sitting for the 20 minutes.
